Setting
I would say this book took in and around the city that lays on the banks of the Mississippi River, St. Petersburg, Missouri and a couple more states located in the northeast parts of American. As for what time period the events in this story occurred in I don’t know exactly but I would most likely guess that they occurred around the 1835’s because that’s a time period where they weren’t as strict as they were now on alcohol and also it was a time period where slavery did still exist. The setting also played a big part because we get to learn about how some states where during that time and we also get to know how it must have been for him because we can guess where and when he is doing things.
Characters
The main character of this story is, of course Huckleberry Finn or “Huck” who has a deadbeat drunk for a dad and he is also only 13 years old. He can be an outcast but he is just a boy who is very intelligent when it comes to survival and a couple of other things. Tom Sawyer is also a very important person because he is a very good friend of Huck’s and he is also everything that Huck isn’t. You also have Miss Watson and Widow Douglas who were the one’s who ended up adopting Huck and their house slave Jim who is most likely the most mature person in this whole book. Lastly, you have Huck’s amazing drunk father who doesn’t approve of education and beats Huck very frequently and can’t keep a family together, Pap.
Good Points
I personally enjoyed this story so I couldn’t really identify any bad points throughout reading it. A really good point is how Huck’s background is a major part of him and seems to stay with him throughout his journey. It also showed a kids life during the times of slavery and it shows how Huck has evolved/adapted to the difficulties and roadblocks in his life. The story was also somewhat connected to his previous novel The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and you could see how this novel lead up to this book.
Plot Summary
Huckleberry Finn learns how to read and have proper manners at Miss Watson's house while he is constantly harassed by his dad for money. He is now kidnapped by his father and escapes to Jackson Island by faking his death with pig blood. He meets up with Jim and they hide together while Mississippi floods and both of them are on the run and are afraid to get caught. Jim and Huck eventually reach the free states with the treasure money as well.(Ohio) Huck begins crushing on the Wilks sister and tries to impress them by planning to catch Duke and Dauphin but when doing so the dukes sell Jim to a local farm. That farm was none other than Tom Sawyers aunt and uncle, and so Tom and Huck start making a plan to get their friend Jim back.
Ending
The ending was quite satisfying because it was a happy ending and everything ended up to go along with Huck’s future and life.

Huckleberry Finn

User Review

Setting
This book takes place in the 1830's-1840's. A lot of the story happens along the Mississippi River. It shows a lot of places in the Southern U.S.
Characters
Huckleberry Finn- He is the narrator of the book. He is trying to escape formal society and helps Jim escape slavery.
Jim- He is trying to escape slavery and he meets up with Huck and travels up the river with him.
Tom Sawyer- He is Huck's friend. He is absolute opposite of Huck. He looks for adventure in everything he does.
Widow Douglas- She adopts Huck and is very strict. She tries to force her beliefs onto Huck and he doesn't like it.
Miss Watson- She adopts Huck with Widow Douglas. She is a lot more lenient and Huck likes her more than Widow Douglas.
Pap- Huck's father. He is a drunk, ugly, abusive racist southerner who Huck hates.
Good Points
I like when Jim and Huck first meet because it is the beginning of a great friendship.
Bad Points
I hated every part where there was a racist comment made because Black people don't deserve to be treated like that.
Plot Summary
Huck get's kidnapped by his father Pap because Pap wants Huck's $6000. Huck escapes on on the Mississippi River on a canoe where he meets Jim, a runaway slave. Jim and Huck travel down the river together trying to escape. Huck and Jim become best friends. They have a lot of adventures together, and in the end Huck views Jim sort of like a father. Huck and Jim both learn lessons throughout their time together.
Ending
It was a good ending and I really liked the book.

Huck Finn

I had to read this for english last year. It was hard to get into because of the dialect. But the story line was kinda cool if I could understand it.
