"The Merciless is chilling...think 'Mean Girls' meets 'The Exorcist.'"MTV.com

“Pretty Little Liars fans, get a sneak peek at your new favorite book The Merciless…a nail biting thriller.”Seventeen Magazine

Brooklyn Stevens sits in a pool of her own blood, tied up and gagged. No one outside of these dank basement walls knows she’s here. No one can hear her scream.

Sofia Flores knows she shouldn’t have gotten involved. When she befriended Riley, Grace, and Alexis on her first day at school, she admired them, with their perfect hair and their good-girl ways. They said they wanted to save Brooklyn. They wanted to help her. Sofia didn’t realize they believed Brooklyn was possessed.

Now, Riley and the girls are performing an exorcism on Brooklyn—but their idea of an exorcism is closer to torture than salvation. All Sofia wants is to get out of this house. But there is no way out. Sofia can’t go against the other girls...unless she wants to be next.

By the shockingly twisted end, readers will be faced with the most haunting question of all: Is there evil in all of us?

The Merciless

User Review

Setting
Setting is in Friend, Mississippi. Current times, Sofia has moved around due to the fact that her mother is a military nurse.
Characters
Sofia, main character is trying to fit in.
Brooklyn has reached out to her.
Riley has accepted Sofia into her little pack.
Alexis and Grace will go wherever and do whatever Riley tells them.
When Sofia gets to know the girls, there is something very wrong with one of them.
Good Points
This book kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time.
However, this is not for the faint of heart. There is a lot of wicked violence and evil.
Riley and Brooklyn are enemies. Just how far will their hatred take them?
Plot Summary
Riley is convinced that Brooklyn is possessed and needs to have an exorcism. She tricks Sofia into becoming part of the ritual, which includes torturing and taking off Brooklyn's little finger.
Which girl is really evil? Brooklyn, who killed and skinned a cat? Or Riley, who can mutilate and murder another girl?
Ending
This book was INTENSE. The ending was crazy! There is a second and third in the series. I can't wait to read them both.

The Merciless review

Setting

The preppy and Catholic religious teenage girls attend a Massachusetts high school where they meet the new school girl and accept her as their own. But little do they know that by accepting her, it would eventually lead to gruesome and sinister events. Providing a base for the major battle, the teenage girls take an abandoned home in the middle of a forest with no nearby neighbors as their own, which would also later lead to many unfortunate and sinister events.

Characters

Characters like Riley ( the leader of the 3) would later prove to be very unsure of things and her relationships with her best friends and enemies would later prove her to be the evil one, even though she was the good one. The author uses her to gain a background of an example of what a “good” or “perfect” human she is but in reality she has a drinking problem and takes grudges off her chest by attempting to murder people. The author also goes on to compare her to acid or fire Later in the story as one of the girls says, “ My skin burned as she touched me”. Charlie, one of the boys attending their school. Would at first be looked at as like the kid who won't do anything to get in trouble but throughout the book we find out just rebellious he is. The author uses his beauty and calmness as sort of a distraction for where he's at and what he's doing.

Both having a great relationship with the new girl Sofia, they show that not everyone is what they seem.

Good Points

I think one of the unique styles about ha uses is the regularly use of dialogue. She uses dialogue to explain how the character are feeling about events happening around them. The use of switching to the past in the form of memories really pulled me in also because she brought them unexpectedly on the character and it felt as if it came unexpectedly for the reader as well.
also the use of descriptiveness in the bloody gore parts of the book brought out the best and made even more intriguing
Plot Summary

The book The Merciless by Danielle Vega is a an adrenaline spouting horror story. In it, takes place the battle of two religions (evil and good) coming into contact with human emotions. What do you get when you find and amateur exorcism occurring in a dark basement by 3 teenage girls?

Ending

The ending was very satisfying, it was like a roller coaster ride. The gore and horror happening through it made my heart pump. The end had me feeling relieved that the good person lived.
This book shows us that religion is not the aspect that holds our certain fates and futures, it's how we act as a human being that depend that.
