Overview

August (Auggie) Pullman was born with a facial deformity that prevented him from going to a mainstream school—until now. He's about to start fifth grade at Beecher Prep, and if you've ever been the new kid, then you know how hard that can be. The thing is, Auggie's just an ordinary kid, with an extraordinary face. But can he convince his new classmates that he's just like them, despite appearances?

R. J. Palacio has written a spare, warm, uplifting story that will have readers laughing one minute and wiping away tears the next. With wonderfully realistic family interactions (flawed, but loving), lively school scenes, and short chapters, Wonder is accessible to readers of all levels.

Setting
Auggie lives in New York with his mother, father, and older sister Via. New York being a very busy city makes it so Auggie is accustomed to people constantly staring at him with very unpleasant reactions. This makes it so Auggie has a lower self esteem than many of the other kids, middle school kids already have a low self esteem but because Auggie looks the way he does his is even lower, making middle school hard for him. Auggie’s looks are not just hard on him, of course his mother, father and sister do not view him as ugly but they know that he is different looking compared to other kids his age. His sister is very protective of him and gets very defensive when she sees someone looking at him weird or hears someone say rude things about the way he looks.
Characters
Julian is the antagonist in this book, Palacio makes him out to be the stereotypical bully in Wonder, in the beginning he is one of three kids to take Auggie on a tour of Beecher Prep. He is nice to Auggie when they are around adults but if there is not an adult around the two of them Julian is awful to Auggie. He makes fun of the way he looks, by telling him he looks like a monster, a character from Star Wars, and asks him if he was half melted in a fire. Julian is that kid at school whose parents are very rich and he loves to show off and brag about how much money his parents make. His mother is the school board director of Beecher Prep, Julian tells his mother lies about Auggie to get her to kick him out of the school, all just because he looks a little different than the rest of the kids. Auggie is a very positive and strong kid. Palacio shows that even though life is not always fair and people are not always the nicest you can make it out okay, and she does this all through Auggie.
Good Points
Palacio writes the same story multiple times but from the views of different characters. Most of Wonder was from Auggie’s point of view but the rest of it was from the point of view from his friends and his sister. I really liked this because it made you feel like you were every character in the book, not just the main character like most books. This writing style showed you how everyone felt from their point of view, not just how the main character thought how they felt.
Bad Points
I do wish that Palacio had used more characters point of views, like Julian for example I would love to see how he views August and what his exact thoughts are and Auggie’s parents should have had their own section showing how they viewed what was happening in Auggie’s life and how they felt about him entering a public school for the first time.
Plot Summary
In Wonder by R.J. Palacio, August Pullman the main character has facial deformities his whole life he has been homeschooled by his mother. When it comes time for Auggie to enter the fifth grade his parents decide that he should go to a public school. At first Auggie is very against this decision because he knows that middle school kids are mean and he is afraid that he will get bullied in this new school. But after much thought and a talk with his parents Auggie decides that he wants to go to a new school with other kids. On Auggie’s first day at Beecher Prep some kids do make fun of him but Auggie quickly makes friends with a girl named Summer. Auggie has other friends but Summer is his best friend. As the school year goes on Auggie experiences troubles than any middle school kid would, but his seem much worse because of his facial deformities. Towards the end of the school year Auggie has made so many friends and endured so many obstacles that he feels like a normal kid who just looks different on the outside.
Ending
In the end of Wonder it is the end of Auggie’s first year of public school, Palacio reflects on how much Auggie has grown and how much the people around him have grown. Palacio wants her audience to know that even though we endure hard situations in life we always make it out in the end. She wants her readers to know that we are all facing different situations in life and even though sometimes it feels like you are alone you are not. You will have someone, whether that be a friend, a parent, a teacher, or even your middle school director you are not here to face the struggles of life by yourself.

Setting
The settings mostly took place in the house, school;Beecher Prep, and hospitals.
Characters
- August Pullman being the main character had conflicts, due to having many surgeries his face was deformed, many kids would bully because of the way he looked. Even the doctors thought that he was going to die at an early age.
- Jack Will is August's best friend, at first Jack was told to talk to August by a teacher, due to Jack talking to August, Julian would bully Jack because he talked to August.
- Olivia Pullman also known as Via is August sister, she always get complains about the way August looked.
- Summer was August's friend since the first day he got to the school, Due to Summer being friends with August she would also get bullied by Julian.
- Julian is the one who bullied everyone who talk to August, his conflict is that the people who talked to August stood up for him and told julian off. They would stick up for August.

Good Points
The good points about the book is that the book felt really, it was brought to life and the characters can tell their part of the story on how they feel about the situation. Shows how many people didn't give up on him and didn't judge him. The author brought the book to life, he made people change their perspective on August.
Bad Points
The bad points on the book was that August sister would over protect him and would want to act like his parents. Olivia wanted to protect him from the world so she didn't want him to school because of what they could say to him. Another thing I thought the author did poorly on was that August parents weren't really involved in the book, they didn't really told how they felt about the situation.
Plot Summary
August was a kid who was deformed and he was also home schooled until it got to 5th grade, he was sent to a private school. August has had many surgeries and which made him look different from most of the people, due to that he got bullied a lot, he made some friends along the way, at the end many people started realizing he wasn't as bad as people put him out to be.
Ending
The ending shows how August has grown as a person and how he has become stronger than he was in the beginning of the book. August had many conflicts during the book but he got through all of them, he never gave up and didn't let fear get to him. The book overall shows many life lessons. Shows how to never give up and to not let fear get the best of you.

Setting
The setting is at Auggie's house and in his school Beecher Prep.
Characters
The main characters are Auggie which is the main character and he is the one with the face deformation. Via is auggies sister she likes to act in plays. Summer is auggies friend that sits by him on the first day. Jack Will is auggies best friend in school. Miranda is an ex best friend of Via's and she changed a lot during the book. The other two important characters are auggies mom and dad Isabel and Nate Pullman.
Good Points
I think a good point in this book was the end when Auggie got his award from the principal. Auggie was super scared to go to school then he ended up loving and got a good award at the end of the year. I think that the author made this a good ending to the book. I really liked this book because of the ending, the ending is super sweet.
Plot Summary
This book is about August Pullman who is a kid that is born with something that isn't normal. He has had 27 surgeries and he had always got weird looks and people saying mean things about him. His family has always protected him. He finally ended going up to school. He was super scared to go to school but he went anyway. He ended up loving it.
Ending
The ending was a very good ending. This ending in the book fit the book. If it was a bad ending then it wouldn't be a good book. Because the kid in the book doesn't have a very good life because of what he was born with. So the ending is super good.

Setting
the setting took place in August's school, Via's school, and home. There are also more smaller settings such as the Camp grounds, or at grans house.
Characters
The main cheracter was August Pullman. A 10 year old boy who has a facial deformaty and it makes it hard to make friends. He struggles with trusting his friends because he doesnt know which ones where put up to it by the principal or who just wants to be his friend.
Good Points
the main thing i like about this book is that it jumps between perspectives. when it changes it will go back time a little and then continue the story through the perspective of another character.
Plot Summary
A boy has a deformaty. He stuggles to make friends but by the end of the book the whole school loves him.
Ending
yes it was kind of expected because you know it wouldnt end sadly. its predicable but it still was an amazing finish.

Setting
The story mainly took place at Beecher Prep, which is a private school that Auggie went to.
Characters
August Pullman: A 10 year-old boy who faces a lot of conflicts with pretty much everyone. He was born with a facial deformity which kept him out of school until now.
Jack: August's friend, but at first he was told to be his friend. Now they truly are friends. His conflicts are with Julian the "popular" kid.
Olivia: Via is her nickname. She is August's sister. Her conflicts are people who make fun of August.
Summer: August's friend, but chooses to be his friend and stick by his side when Julian is bullying him. She faces the kids who make fun of her for being August friend.
Julian: Bullys August and his conflicts are everyone who choose to stick up for August.
Good Points
Some good things that the author did do well is he told the story as if it were true. He brought everything to life. I really like this book because you can feel the emotion of all the characters and you get to see their points on the situations.
Bad Points
One thing that I though that the author could have changed is the way he portrayed August sister. She always felt the need to keep him sheltered. I think that Via could have stepped back off of Auggie and let him be a boy and not try to be his parents.
Plot Summary
August Pullman is a 10 year old boy that has some facial deformities. He is about to go into fifth grade and his mom and dad are talking about putting him in a private school, Beecher Prep. Auggie has made some friends, but he also made some enemies. One event that happens is when Auggie goes to a school trip and they go camping in a way. He got made fun of up on that trip. Another event is when August over hears Jack talking bad about him. It really hurt Auggies feelings, but Jack only said the stuff he did because he wanted to seem cool.
Ending
The ending of the book was pretty satisfying. I think the ending fits the story and it shows how strong August has become. He faced so many challenges, but over came every single one of them. It also taught the readers some life lessons as well.
