Synopsis

Enzo knows he is different from other dogs: a philosopher with a nearly human soul (and an obsession with opposable thumbs), he has educated himself by watching television extensively, and by listening very closely to the words of his master, Denny Swift, an up-and-coming race car driver.

Through Denny, Enzo has gained tremendous insight into the human condition, and he sees that life, like racing, isn't simply about going fast. Using the techniques needed on the race track, one can successfully navigate all of life's ordeals.

On the eve of his death, Enzo takes stock of his life, recalling all that he and his family have been through: the sacrifices Denny has made to succeed professionally; the unexpected loss of Eve, Denny's wife;the three-year battle over their daughter, Zoë, whose maternal grandparents pulled every string to gain custody. In the end, despite what he sees as his own limitations, Enzo comes through heroically to preserve the Swift family, holding in his heart the dream that Denny will become a racing champion with Zoë at his side. Having learned what it takes to be a compassionate and successful person, the wise canine can barely wait until his next lifetime, when he is sure he will return as a man.

A heart-wrenching but deeply funny and ultimately uplifting story of family, love, loyalty, and hope, The Art of Racing in the Rain is a beautifully crafted and captivating look at the wonders and absurdities of human life . . . as only a dog could tell it.

Publishers Weekly

Christopher Evan Welch has a knack for delving into heart-wrenching material with finesse. Stein's tale of family, loss, redemption, and fast cars-recounted entirely from the perspective of a retriever-terrier mix named Enzo-ups the ante on the recent trend of high-concept anthropomorphism in popular fictions. Once listeners buy into Stein's premise, Welch faithfully delivers the goods. He is particularly effective in scenes where Enzo navigates the blurry area between his human-like thoughts and his base animal instincts (like when abandonment issues during a family medical emergency compel him to wreak havoc on a stuffed animal). Welch re-creates Enzo's pivotal moment of sheer bliss-riding on the track with his race car driver human companion Denny-with evocative detail. The musical interludes at the start and end of the CD help preserve an earnest and dignified atmosphere. A Harper hardcover (Reviews, Jan. 28).

Setting
It all starts of with Enzo being at age 12 being really old and with many health problems. Enzo starts talking to Denny even though Denny doesn't understand anything Enzo says. Enzo tells Denny that it’s his time and soon when he dies he will be a human just like him. Before all that Enzo Starts talking about his past and every experience throughout his dog life with Denny and every person that he has had been part of his life, to that very moment.
Characters
Enzo and Denny’s life all began at a farm where Denny bought Enzo in a small crate with his other siblings. Time passed by and him and Enzo lived in an average size apartment building. Denny relationship with Enzo is a true love story with mankind and mans best friend. Denny would normally leave for a week sometimes to race or be a representative of some type of dealership. One huge conflict that Enzo faces throughout the book is that Denny get’s married with a woman named Eve. Enzo knew that this was a sign of a new beginning. Enzo was worried with this woman named eve he would become Denny’s second choice.
Good Points
The way this Author wrote this was very detailed in my opinion. Some good points that the author made is that we have to enjoy life while we still have it. He made Enzo very human like witch really caught my attention and tried to give I want to say like lessons to people in the real life. I personally liked this book very much, it was a book that I could not put down.
Bad Points
I think that the author did great he didn’t have any bad points. He knew what he was doing.
Plot Summary
The Art of Racing in the Rain By Garth Stein. The book That I’m reading is about a dog named Enzo, Enzo isn’t your typical dog. Enzo thinks different than other dogs he believes that when he dies, He will become a human just like when humans die they will become an animal. Denny, Enzo’s owner is a race car driver and customer representative in a Seattle BMW dealership. Enzo is amazed with his work. Denny always shares his stories with Enzo and put’s Enzo videoclips of the race that Enzo get’s inspired by.
Ending
I want to say the ending was satisfying in a way, I wish it would have not ended that way but it was a good way to end a book. The way it ended was so particular for example the setting where it took place just so well put together.

Setting
This story takes place in a small apartment, a home for a faimly of four, a sick room, and Italy. Enzo, the main character, and also a old dog, tells the reader the story of his life from the aparament. He shows the reader his time as a pup on the farm he was born on, to his life with his master Denny, and his daughter and wife in the house. When Zoe, Denny's wife falls ill, Enzo paints a picture of the horror of the sick room. Itally is told from a third point of view, but gives the reader comfort in the end.
Characters
Enzo is a dog of many years, he isn't like most dogs though. This dog loves racing, he knows what his master is saying, and he has a love for his family that knows no bounds. Denny, Enzo's master is a Racecar driver and a man who id fighting for his family, and his happiness. Zoe, Denny's daughter is the love of both Enzo and Denny. Eve is Denny's wife, and a eample to how people can change.
Good Points
This book is one of the few that really brought tears to my eyes. Stein is able to write a tale that is so heart renchingly wonderful, that the reader finds himself absorbed in the story. I became angry at the people who were fighting against Denny, and rejoiced when the good news came. Finally, I cried happy tears when I learned that dogs really do turn into men.
Plot Summary
The Art of Racing in the Rain, by Garth Stein is a story of the power of love, and the dark places that we have to visit in order to see the beauty of everything we have around us. It is a story of how you have to fight for your dreams, and grab them with both hands, because, "that what we manifest, is before us."
Ending
The ending was beautiful, and gave me peace for Enzo, Zoe, and Denny. It made a heart break heal. If this was excluded from the book, it would be good. But beacause this was added, it made the book that much better.

Setting
It was based on a newly married couple. Then they have a little girl and how Enzo the dog bonds with each one of them in different ways.
Characters
The story is told by Enzo the dog's point of few. It showed the perpective of how the family is viewed from a dog's point of view.
Good Points
Enzo tried to comfort and help each member of the family. He wanted to be there to support them and help any way he could. He wanted everyone to be happy. I loved reading about how a dog might actually think about what humans do.
Bad Points
I did not enjoy the details of the racing. Some parts were really enjoyable while other drug on forever. I hated reading about the custody battle between the Denny and the grand parents.
Plot Summary
Denny was a race car driver. He married the love of his life and was so thrilled to have a new baby daughter. He dog, Enzo, went thru each faze of his life and grew to love each member of the family. Enzo loved to racing with Denny and enjoyed being on the race track and going fast.

The Art of Racing in the Rain

Denny has more than his share of bad luck with life, and Enzo shares his perspective on the lessons of life. While satisfying in the resolution of the story, as will most dog stories, there is some sadness at the end. I particularly enjoyed Enzo's wise perspective as he tells Denny's story. Overall, a very good and satisfying read.

Good Points
Narrated by Enzo, the dog, this book provides a perspective on the challenges Denny faces with the passing of his wife and the ensuing custody battle of his child. The narration by Enzo is refreshing with many a commentary on life's lessons.
Bad Points
Sometimes I felt a little bogged down with the racing descriptions, although they were relevant to the story line.

The Art of Racing in the Rain

This was a real feel good kind of story. This is a love story between a dog and his family. This story spans over the lifetime of the dog,Enzo. Enzo is narating the story and it's very interesting to read about how observant the dog is, and how much more he notices about life and people than people realistically do. One of the main characters in the story dreams of racing cars and actually gets to try his hand at it. The dog has a love for racing as well. This story gives you something to ponder about, I loved it!
