Overview

Michael must save his mother—and protect his powers—in the electric sequel to the #1 New York Times bestselling Michael Vey, from Richard Paul Evans.

I rolled over to my back, struggling for breath. The pain continued to pulse through my body—a heavy throb followed by a sharp, crisp sting.

The man said, “Trust me, there are worse things in this world than Cell 25.”

Michael, Taylor, Ostin, and the rest of the Electroclan have escaped from the Elgen Academy in Pasadena and are headed back to Idaho to plan their next move. But what’s waiting for them there will change everything.

After using their wits and powers to narrowly escape an Elgen trap, a mysterious voice leads the Electroclan to the jungles of Peru in search of Michael’s mother. Once there, they discover that Dr. Hatch and the Elgen are far more powerful than anyone realizes; entire countries have begun to fall under their control. Only the Electroclan and an anonymous voice now stand in the way of the Elgen’s plan for global domination.

But is the voice that Michael is following really an ally, or is it just another Elgen trap?

Plot Summary
Michael and his x-men like team escape the compound in Pasadena and head back to Idaho where Elgen guards are waiting to recapture them. Jack's house is burned down, Elgen guards are hiding out at Osteon's house, and Taylor's family is in danger and they have Michaels mother in the compound in peru. they practice their powers so they can go rescue Michaels mom.
Ending
the ending is very questionable because the author leaves you at this like cliff hanger in the last few pages. new problems come up, new adventures to come.

Michael Vey: Rise of the Elgen

User Review

Setting
The beginning of the story takes place in different locations in Meridian, Idaho, including a huge mansion owned by a bully that used to torment Michael. Later on the group goes to Peru, and eventually to the huge Elgen compound in the middle of the jungle.
Characters
One character that I think was very effective was Ostin. Ostin is Michael’s best friend, and one of the only people in the group that doesn’t have any abilities. Despite this, Ostin is important to the group because of how smart he is. Whenever the group is in trouble, Ostin finds a way to get them out of it. One character that could have been developed better is McKenna. She has the ability to heat herself up and can melt through some metals. She has an ability that would seem helpful, but she doesn’t use it very often, and you don’t get very much back story for her. Overall she just seems like a kind of useless character in this book.
Good Points
I thought that the writer has a good writing style. He wrote it from the point of view from a fifteen-year-old kid and he is able to make it sound like it actually is a teenager telling the story instead of a grown man. The way that he talks about Michael’s girlfriend Taylor, and his mom seems like it could be a teenager talking about them. The same story being told by a man in his forties would not have the same feel to it.
Bad Points
None
Plot Summary
Michael Vey: Rise of the Elgen by Richard Paul Evans is a great book to read. It is the second book in the series. Michael Vey and many have electricity-based abilities that have made them a target of a corporation called the Elgen. When Michael finds out that the Elgen is keeping his mother in a compound in Peru, the group must travel there to try to rescue her. One memorable event was when the group is in the huge house owned by one of the bullies that used to torment Michael. The whole group practices with their abilities, and Michael learns that he can throw balls of electricity. Another event is when they are in Peru and must get through the jungle to the compound.
Ending
I have mixed feelings about the ending of the book. I thought that it should have ended a little bit sooner than it did. It seemed fairly resolved and satisfying, but then a new problem comes up in the last few pages of the book. I felt like the author wanted to set it up for the next book and it leaves you in suspense. If you don’t read the last chapter, then it has a good ending.

Michael Vey - Rise of the Elgen

User Review

Setting
Micheal Vey goes to california to rescue his mother, only to find that she has been taken to Peru. He and his friends fly to Peru to rescue her from a well gaurded compound.
Characters
Micheal's friend Ostin, Who is very smart, becomes an asset again, due to his ability to speak and understand spanish. As a team, Micheal, Taylor, Ostin, Jack and Wade work to overthrow the Elgen. Another adventure of being caught and outsmarting the Evil Dr. Hatch.
Good Points
Part of this book was written in Spanish, so for those learning the language, it can be fun practice; and for those learning English it can be very friendly.

Michael Vey 2 Rise of the Elgen

User Review

Setting
The author takes us to South America and another of the complexes that constitute one of the homes of the enemy in our story. This part of the series takes our band of heroes to the middle of hostility in the continued search for Michael's mother. Danger was already high on their minds, yet they did hot have any clue of the parameters that increased the danger in their rescue mission tremedously.
Characters
Michael began the search for his mother by talking Jack into driving him to California. In the first book, Taylor, Ostin, Zeus, Ian, McKenna, Abigail and Grace are introduced into Michael's quest and for various resons they all become a team. Each member of the team either has the "powers" given them at birth by a "failed" experiment, or have talents that are an advantage against the odds from the "powers" of our dangerous characters including, Dr. Hatch, Tara, Torstyn, Quentin and Bryan, and Dr. Hatch's army.
Good Points
The story is a "can't put it down" type of story. There is constant action and emotion with the characters. There are many tense places and many more even more tense situations throughout the pages. I cannot wait for the next book to be released.
Bad Points
There is so much going on that there were a couple of places that required rereading to fully grasp the setting. This problem only occured in a couple of spots.
Plot Summary
Michael kept his secret for so many years until it was revealed in the first book. Now Michael has discovered that he is not alone and he is growing stronger. His group take out survelliance cameras and download computers in very unique ways. Their adversaries have very strong physical and mental abilities that rival Michael's own group's various talents. To say more would spoil the adventure.
Ending
The ending to Michael Vey 2, "The Rise of the Elgen," is a definate cliff hanger. Several questions are left unanswered, especially regarding the outside "aid" being given to Michael. The series so far is a definate page turner.
