Synopsis

New York City has been decimated by war and plague, and most of civilization has migrated to underground enclaves, where life expectancy is no more than the early 20's. When Deuce turns 15, she takes on her role as a Huntress, and is paired with Fade, a teenage Hunter who lived Topside as a young boy. When she and Fade discover that the neighboring enclave has been decimated by the tunnel monsters—or Freaks—who seem to be growing more organized, the elders refuse to listen to warnings. And when Deuce and Fade are exiled from the enclave, the girl born in darkness must survive in daylight, in the ruins of a city whose population has dwindled to a few dangerous gangs. As the two are guided by Fade’s long-ago memories, they face dangers, and feelings, unlike any they’ve ever known.

Publishers Weekly

In this skilled though violent postapocalyptic thriller, Deuce has newly earned the rank of Huntress, after years of training have taught her to "wield a knife or a club with equal proficiency." It's her duty to provide meat for her loveless, draconian enclave, deep beneath the streets of a ruined city, as well as to defend it against cannibalistic Freaks, who are gradually eliminating the scattered human survivors of a vaguely remembered plague. Deuce's is a world of terrifying encounters in near-complete darkness, but she's very good at what she does. Then Deuce stands up for a friend unfairly accused of hoarding and, accompanied only by her talented but unpopular partner, Fade, is soon exiled with little chance of survival either in the lightless and dangerous sewers or Topside. In her first young adult novel, Aguirre (the Sirantha Jax series) has created a gritty and highly competent heroine, an equally deadly sidekick/love interest, and a fascinating if unpleasant civilization. This series is likely to hold considerable appeal for fans of The Hunger Games. Ages 12 up. (Apr.)

Setting
In the future, the world is not a happy place. New York is where this story takes place. 'Freaks' have taken over and they live on human flesh.
Characters
Deuce has finally found her place. She is a Huntress. Proud to be able to feed her Enclave, she is fierce.
When one of her friends is unfairly accused of a crime, she comes to their defense only to be exiled for it.
She partners with another 'misfit' and together they fight off the 'freaks' while trying to survive.
Good Points
This was a fun book. Deuce finds out that not everyone is what she has been told. Blood and guts and gore. Great Read for when you are home alone. At night.
Plot Summary
The Enclave has protected it's inhabitants for many years. There is a system set up and there is no forgiveness. When Deuce finds out that their system is slightly corrupt, no one seems to believe her. When she is exiled for a non-existent crime, she is put to the test. Can she survive with her partner? He seems to be untrustworthy.
Ending
The ending was good. They story continues with part 2 and 3.

Setting
The setting of this book is the Enclave. The Enclave is where the people of the world come to be safe from all of the freaks. The Enclave is the main setting in the book. Another setting is the place called Nassau. Nassau is a place where it used to be full of supplies and other goods. Now the place they call Nassau has been overrun by the freaks. There is one more setting called the Dark Tunnels. The dark tunnels are below the city of Nassau. The tunnels are inhabited by the species of people they like to call the burrowers.
Characters
In the book I read one of the characters is named Deuce. Deuce is a Huntress, which means that she is the front-line kind of person. I think the author made her so she is a very interesting character. The author made Deuce have a lot of different personalities. The second character I am going to talk about is the Freaks. The freaks are this monster that resembles a lot to a zombie. They are these meat-eating monsters that try to kill everything they see. The author made the freaks very interesting. She said that the freaks are always adapting a getting smarter. She also said that the freaks would even eat each other, only if the other freak died.
Good Points
The book I read is both a first person and a second person novel. It is interesting that the reader used first person because then she can tell you about how the characters experienced their life. They the author switches to third person and that helps because then they can tell you about what the Enclave and everyone in it life’s were.
Plot Summary
The book Enclave by Ann Aguirre is about a teenager named Deuce. In the book Deuce and her friend Fade go on adventure to find supplies for the Enclave. On Fade and Deuce’s adventure they stumble upon a blind lost boy. The boy is surrounded by the “freaks” is what they call them. The freaks are these zombies like monster creatures. They take the boy back to the Enclave and he says his town is overrun by freaks.
Ending
I think the end of this book is kinda satisfying. I think the story could have ended a little better. What I got out of this story is that people should not always go through life getting told what to do. If Deuce would have listened to the Word keeper and stayed on the trail, then the city of Nassau would never have been found.

Setting
In the future, the world is changed, "freaks" or eaters roam, and the generations surviving the plague have migrated underground, living in old subway tunnels.
Characters
Deuce is a hunter, she searches the tunnels for game and brings them back to her enclave. She is partnered with Fade, a person who was not born in the College Enclave, but lived on his own "topside". Their relationship and adventures are what the story is really about.
Plot Summary
As Deuce learns the truth about the elders, none over 22, in the Enclave, her belief that the world held justice fades. She and Fade become outcasts as they learn the truth, that the freaks are coming and if College does not prepare, they will die.
Ending
I liked the adventure that lead to the ending, but it seemed a little abrupt. It was satisfying and fun.

Setting
The setting provides for a good change in regular books. It moves from a living under the ground up into a new world of light and air.
Characters
There were multiple types of characters all representing something significant to bring to the story and allow for it to continue without dragging me along and making it boring, but keeping them interested. Characters such Thimble gave Deuce an opportunity to excel at her dreams. While another such as Stone had the impact of her exile away from the enclave. The two main characters Fade and Deuce- who, were later joined by Stalker and Tegan- effectively bring the plot along. They aren’t simple and get along perfectly well. Later with the new main characters conflict and tension begin to rise between the four. The conflict really makes a reader sit on the edge of their seat wondering why and what will the others do about that. Muties also attack eating and killing all human remains. The problem Fade and Deuce face is that keep getting smarter and aren’t dumb brutes anymore. They really have to stay ahead of the game to survive after becoming injured and coming to a new world that Deuce never knew and Fade was vaguely familiar with.
Good Points
I got out of this novel that if you let problems gather on top of you without beating them back and solving them, you will go under. And if you follow along others blindly that problem such as the muties will swallow you whole without you even knowing what hit you. I also learned that trust is essential in a partnership. Without it, you will fail miserably because you can’t always watch your back.
Ending
In Enclave the ending was very unsatisfactory and left many of my questions unanswered. Throughout the story it was go, go, go, and then once the ending hit, it just sort of ended.
