A Child Called "It"

User Review

Setting
The setting of this story is mostly just David at home and in school, being abused in both places. He talks of how his family used to be before everything changed. He also tells stories of a place in San Francisco, where he has the best memories before his life changed forever. It wasn’t long after he was about 4-5 years old that his mother suddenly began to despise him, and take every bit of anger she had towards life and put it onto David. The setting of his home brings you chills. He explains the horrifics of his home so well that you can almost imagine the house as if you are there.
Characters
David has 3 brothers, plus another brother that is born later along into the book. He also has his mother and father. Now I could tell you of how horrible his mother is, and how one day she randomly hates David and treats him as if he is a slave while she treats her other children as gold. Instead, I am going to tell you of his father, and the relationship that they have. His father never hits David, but what he does do wrong is never defend David when he sees his own wife beat David and treat him as if he is literally nothing. David feels as if his dad is the only person he has left, because even his brothers don’t see him as a person. David soon realizes that his mother has broken his father just as much as she has broken him. His father fears his mother, and feels guilt every day for not being able to rescue his son. David hates his father for never saving him, and soon grows more hate for his father than his mother.
Good Points
This book honestly really only had good points in my opinion. It’s the first book that I have actually really gotten into in a long time. The author did very well at describing the circumstances of David’s home and exactly how David felt. You can almost feel his pain and imagine his face through the words of his story. I liked this book for many reasons, but what I liked the most was the honesty of it. It didn’t sugarcoat anything. It told his life as it was, and explained every thought and feeling he experienced. It described the way she beat him, with every detail. It made me feel something, which is hard for a book to do.
Bad Points
The only bad point I can think of, which isn’t even really a bad point was that it didn’t end with a resolution. Although I know that’ll be in the next book so I’m not really upset since I will be reading it very soon.
Plot Summary
After finishing this book, I was so glad that I read it and finished such a great book. In this story, it sort of starts out with telling you the ending right from the start. He tells of the story of him being rescued in the first chapter, then in the rest of the following chapters he switches into telling the story of his life, and how it started out good and became horrible within a matter of time. The main character is a young boy named David, whose mother begins abusing him not only physically, but mentally and emotionally too. He tells of everything that she did to him for so many years. The book ends just the same; although there is more books after this one, which I am sure will finish up what happens to David and his life.
Ending
I was very satisfied with the ending of this book. Although it didn’t have much of a big resolution, it left me wanting more. Again, it did sort of tell the ending at the beginning of the book, and then moved into how it all started. I really eager to know what happens next, which will be in the rest of his series. I honestly feel like I got a lot out of this novel. I got to escape into a book that made me feel, and showed me that there are way worse things happening out there that I am blessed to not have to live with. It taught me that there are children out there experiencing this, and it needs to be fixed. Every child deserves to be love, and in this story I found out that there are many children out there with nobody to show them unconditionally love. I definitely recommend this book, it was so good. I am so excited to read more of his series.

Setting
This book takes place in San Francisco, California in the 1960’s. This is where Dave Pelzer was born and grew up. The main character in this book is Dave Pelzer. This book is all about his childhood. Dave Pelzer was beaten and abused by his mother in his childhood.

Characters
This book is about a little boy named Dave Pelzer. This story follows him through his life and takes you through his abuse that he suffers throughout of his childhood. You see how he finds the will, and courage to survive. In this story you also know how he actually manages to survive. This story take you through Dave Pelzer thought processes and what he was thinking every step of the way.
Good Points

The author did a good a job in the way he organized the book and his story. It is a very sad story, in the beginning he starts out with some happier moments in his life. Then he moves into more of the deeper and sadder moments.
Bad Points
Some parts I didn’t particularly like is that towards the end of book you can tell how Dave gets more irritated and has more of an “I don’t about anything” sort of outlook on life. This sort of ends the book on a more sad and depressing note.

Ending
This is one of those stories that the ending is told in the beginning. I like how the story ended in that sense, but when i was actually done reading the story I was just left with this sense of sadness. I had to remember the beginning of the book to become happy again. However I did feel like the ending did fit the book and the story.

A Child called it

User Review

Setting
The book took place in San Franciso California, Dave was the young boy and the two most important places in the book were his "home" and also the school he went to.
Characters
One of the main most important characters was Dave he was a young boy who his mother abused him and would feed him left overs she would mostly punish him all the time, He was the Third out of the four brothers, At first his child hood was nice but then a few years later everything changed for him.
Daves mother is also a mail chacter Roevra she was the one who would punish him in many mean cruel ways like she didn't care that he was her son.
Good Points
What I liked mostly about the book was that is was based on a real story that really happend even though it was hard to read at times since it was really sad I really got into the book, There was times where I didn't want to put the book down since it was just so intersting.
Bad Points
What I didn't like about the book was how Dave's mom would treat him like it seemed likeshe didn't care that dave was her son her own blood and the way she would treat him was just awful there was times in the book were I would get mad and just think it's not fair that she would take out her anger out on him.
Plot Summary
The book is mostly Based on Dave's life on everything he had to deal with for years before getting help and getting away from his mother. It was about the cruel things she would make him do and the pain she would put Dave through for silly things.
Ending
I Loved this book it touched me, I got really into it, People should read this book because they will learn a lot out of it, They will get to see that there are other kids out there that are having a hard life that they would never even imagine.

A Child Called it.

User Review

Setting
The setting has two important places the first place is his home where he eats only the left overs of his brothers and digs thorugh the trash. The school is also an important part because that is his escape from abuse its his refuge. It takes place in the 1960's-1970's. Sanfransisco California
Characters
David Pelezer, is the third of five children at first he lived the happy child hood of a regular child where he lived in a happy family and his mother would take them out for picnics and they would all play together. A few years later he was the victim the one who had to clean and try to keep his mother from hurting him even more than she already did. David would starve to death and find even the littlest of crumbs from the trash to hurry and scrub down before his mother came. He would wear the same old clothes who smelled and the kids at school would pick on him and he was sent to the school nurse to be examined and he had to come up with a new lie everytime a new bruise was found.

Roerva Pelzer- Is the mother the cause for David's unhappiness in the begining of the novel she was described as a sweet mother who always cleaned, cooked dinner, and took the kids out to play. But once she started to become a drunk she became a horrid person one who would favor four of her children and the other one was treated like an animal she would abuse her soon and it seemed that made her feel better and threaten David that if he told anyone what she does to him she would really punish him.
Good Points
One thing that i liked from this novel is that its a biography. Its a story from the boy who is now an adult and they are flash backs of what happend in his childhood. Its a person who lived to tell from his experiance. His story brought tears to my eyes because one never thinks that this actually does happen to someone and the fact that he told the story without leaving out details is going to help those who may be going through what he did by speaking up before its too late.
Plot Summary
The story begins from the point of veiw of the author David Pelzer he was the main character his story is his childhood where he was a happy child and then went to being a childed who was hurt physically and emotionlly thanks to his alcholic mother who buses him and likes to play "games" with him and his reward was his sibblings leftovers. His routine was going to see the nurse and his classmates and teacher giving him nasty looks because he stunk and wore the same clothes to school everyday. He is in the cop car trying to remember the memories before he became the victim while also remembering the bad ones.
Ending
What i got out of this novel is that i now appeciate the family i have because i only get yelled at but my parents have never put a hand on me. Specailly made me eat my sisters left overs for the day as a "reward". But its also a lesson for people who are being bullied that they need to speak up and not be afraid but also for the ones who are abusing people that it should stop because it does scare the victim for the rest of their life. The ending of the book is just the beggining his journey he was finaly safe in the arms of the school staff and on the drive in the cop car eating milk and cookies. but for the first book its satifying because he doesnt need to be abused and can confess what his life is like when he isnt at school.
